NAPCAN is pleased to announce that the Minister
for Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mal Brough
has agreed to launch National Child Protection Week ’06,
which will be held in conjunction with the Queensland launch. The
event will take place at the KidsHelpline premises in Brisbane on
Sunday September 3, 2006.

The Invitations to participate in National
Child Protection Week ’06 will be sent out electronically
and by post next week. Past participants, the wider sector and the
public at large will be invited to take up the challenge, get involved
in National Child Protection Week in their community, and ask children
and young people to help create a child friendly Australia.

This year, NAPCAN has engaged the professional
services of a photographer to produce a wonderful poster that encapsulates
everything National Child Protection Week strives for: Child Friendly
Communities. Get your free poster by registering your planned activity
at www.napcan.org.au/NCPW/index.htm
From 7 July you can go online and register your
activity for National Child Protection Week. Just go to the
registration page, fill in your details – you will automatically
be sent a Promotions Pack, you can download an Activities kit and
order resources to support your activity.
This online kit will assist you in every aspect
of organising an activity to promote the wellbeing and safety of
Australia’s children and young people. Watch for the Activities
Kit at: www.napcan.org.au/NCPW/index.htm

The Promotions Pack for National Child Protection
Week ’06 includes an A2 poster; copies of the Listening
series brochures: Listening to Babies, Children and Young People;
the newly produced Importance of Play brochure, and a Child
Friendly Communities Booklet.
Multiple copies of these and any other of NAPCAN’s parenting
brochures can be ordered online. The Child Friendly Communities
booklet is now also available in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Samoan,
Tongan and Vietnamese. Go to: www.napcan.org.au/resources |

NAPCAN’s Website is updated regularly,
and the National Office and each of the States and Territories
will have individual National
Child Protection Week pages featuring local stories, activities
and resources. |
In the lead up to the Week we are asking you to
continue to send us stories
of child friendly moments to help us create a picture of how
a child friendly community can and does look! Read some of the
stories of child friendly moments we've received.
This is one of the most important activities for
NAPCAN both nationally and at a state and territory level ensuring
an effective outreach as widely as possible into the community.
While each Partner will contribute and support
National Child Protection Week in a unique way, the broad role of
each Partner is to promote and encourage participation in the Week
throughout their organisation and network.
Developing an Australia wide network of Partners
for NCPW 2006 will help sustain and increase the significant growth
in public profile and participation in the prevention of Australia’s
most serious social problem – child abuse and neglect.
Should your organisation be interested in becoming
a National Child Protection Week partner, please go to: www.napcan.org.au/partnerships.htm
NAPCAN is proud to announce the appointment of
two Ambassadors. The role of ambassador is to promote all of NAPCAN’s
work, however a large part of this will involve National Child Protection
Week.
Well known broadcaster Julie
McCrossin, has officially taken up the role of NAPCAN Ambassador,
facilitating the launch of the Child Friendly Communities Campaign
in May 2006.
Julie is passionate about the wellbeing of children
and young people and we are delighted to have her join us in creating
a child friendly Australia.
At the launch, Julie introduced one of the speakers, Bilel Jideh,
whose personal story of positive mentoring made a huge impact on
everyone in the audience. Although he is studying fulltime for a
degree in medicine, Bilel has agreed to be NAPCAN’s Young
Ambassador.
