Welcome to the first update for National Child Protection Week 2006:
Young Visions for a Child Friendly Australia

Over the next few months we will use eUpdates to keep you up to speed with valuable information to help you organise and promote your NCPW activities.

The formal invitation to get involved in NCPW is currently at the printers, and is now being created in email format so it can be circulated as widely as possible. The invitation will be sent out in early June.

Young visions...

Last year’s theme encouraged everyone in the community to take responsibility for the wellbeing and safety of children by building child friendly communities. In 2006 we shift the focus to the kids themselves.

An important element of a child friendly community is that children are able to play a part. This year we are inviting adults to give kids the opportunity to share their visions about child friendly communities. (Imagine the responses kids might give to a question like: ‘What would you like Australia to look like when your great-grandchildren are growing up?’)

In this way you will show kids how much you value them, and you may learn how simple a child friendly community can be.

The Capture a Child Friendly Moment Campaign...

...is about photos, and the stories behind them, that will help build a picture and vision of what a child friendly Australia looks like.

We really need you to send us lots of your stories that really paint the picture of child friendly moments, and then we will share them with everyone via the website. Find out more at the Capture A Child Friendly Moment.

The Child Friendly Challenges for 2006

Last year we developed child friendly challenges, for individuals, communities and workplaces. In NCPW 2006 we’ve added a few more:

  • Capture and share with us your child friendly moment
  • Hold a child friendly activity giving kids the opportunity to share their visions.
  • Put up a display at your workplace.
  • Get onto our website, get involved and play your part.

Promotional Material

NAPCAN National Office will let you know when the resources for NCPW are available. Most of these will be made available online.

Other resources (posters etc) will be mailed out to you. When ordering, please allow plenty of time for postage. We anticipate the NCPW Postcard will be in cafes and other public places in early August.

This year we are redeveloping the Importance of Play booklet, and producing a new resource: Playing A Part. As with all of NAPCAN’S resources, these will be available to download from the website, and can be ordered online.

Founding NCPW Partners – a national network!

In 2006 NAPCAN Foundation is inviting organisations both from within the child welfare sector, and from the wider community, to join us in Partnership.

NCPW has a history of strong relationships between NAPCAN and other interested organisations at the national and state & territory levels, including the 2004-5 Steering Committee. Partnerships are now being formed to promote NCPW 2006 as widely as possible.

While each Partner will contribute to, and support, NCPW in a unique way, the broad role of each Partner is to promote and encourage participation in NCPW throughout their organisation and network.

As official NCPW Partners organisations will contribute to the wellbeing and safety of Australia's children, enjoy media opportunities to promote their work, and be provided with opportunities to advance their goals for children and young people.
